Jodi’s Story

How long did you wait before deciding on physical therapy and what was the obstacle?
I came in pretty quickly actually. I had a car accident. Then went to my doctor two days later. And then I want to say it was a week ten days later, my doctor recommended Preferred Physical Therapy and that’s when I had my first visit.

What was and how bad was your problem prior to receiving physical therapy?
I was rear-ended at a dead stop. At first, I really didn’t feel anything. It was a little bit of a shock, I think. It wasn’t until the next morning that I was like there’s something going on with my neck, it’s stiff, it hurts, I don’t have a range of motion.

What was your pain preventing you from doing?
I’m a flight attendant and I’m required to have the range of motion with my neck. I’m required to lift 25 to 35 pounds and I knew I couldn’t, so I was not able to work.

What would you say to someone who was experiencing pain but skeptical about physical therapy?
They gave me exercises the first day I was here and I’ve been doing those, unless I come in, then I do them here. I’ve been doing those exercises, along with the, also knowing what they’re doing, to me, has [sped up] my recovery. I feel better now than I did BEFORE the car accident. It’s amazing! But you also have to be proactive. They can work on you and give you the tools, but then you have to take them home and do them. Do what they are telling you to do. Do the exercises. Mine took me fifteen minutes and I was done. The more agile I can be, the more limber I can be, the better… and that’s what they’ve given me back.

Out of all the things that you enjoyed about coming to Preferred Physical Therapy, what did you enjoy the most?
It’s the most professional place I have ever been. It’s the most relaxed. They are joking amongst each other. They’re joking with the patients and it’s such a relaxed environment  and they all know exactly what they’re doing, when they’re doing it to you. I would highly recommend them Nick and his staff are amazing! I love their mission statement that it’s 40+ and they want to keep you moving, no surgery, no pain medications. This might be my third time being in a physical therapy environment  and it’s been the best I’ve ever had. Ever. It’s Amazing!

What were you wanting to achieve and did we help you to achieve it?
My expectation was to first of all, get back to work. Second of all, just feel better. When I first came in [the pain] was not only in my neck – even my shoulders and shoulder blades – and now, there’s nothing! There’s no pain, at all! My expectation was to get back to work  as fast as I can but also be ready to go back and not rush it. And they have been just amazing, absolutely amazing. The number one goal since I started here was to basically to get back to work and get back to that range of motion of my neck and back and to be able to do what I did before the car accident . It’s awesome! I’m just excited to get back to my life!
