Ed’s Story

How long did you wait before deciding to seek out a physical therapist?
I had the problem for around two or three weeks before coming in.

Why did you feel as though you had to wait that long? As in, what was the obstacle in coming to physical therapy?
Well, I thought it was just a muscle strain at first. And so did the doctor.

What was and how bad was your problem prior to physical therapy?
The problem was primarily a very stiff neck, limited mobility and pain when doing my normal activities which are weight lifting and playing golf.

What was your neck pain causing you to miss out on?
I was having difficulty turning my neck when I was in the car, you know looking in the back when getting out of the parking lot. Everyday activities were being affected by it.

Did you try anything else that didn’t work?
I took some muscle relaxers and pain pills but they did nothing for me.

What would you say to someone who was hesitant on getting physical therapy?
Oh absolutely this would be the place. It’s a very friendly and relaxed atmosphere. I actually looked forward to coming here.

What did you enjoy the most about coming to Preferred PT?
Just in general, the people. Nick and I had some really good conversations and I just like everyone here.

What were you hoping to achieve and did we help you to achieve it?
Yes. I’m going to continue my home exercise routine indefinitely. You just have to make it part of your daily routine. What I do, is when I watch the ten o’clock news at night, I do my exercises. It doesn’t take away from anything because I have no problem watching TV and listening to the news while I sit there and do my exercises.

What to Watch Out For:

Pain scale: 6/10
Pain description: Tightness and tension at the base of the neck and up into the skull
Worse with:
  • Activity
  • Sleeping on two pillows
Better with:
  • Tens unit
  • Heating pad
Number of visits: 9
