Katelyn’s Story

How long did you wait before deciding on physical therapy and what was the obstacle?
After my home care was over, I thought I could figure this out on my own but I couldn’t, I needed the help and it made all the difference!

What was and how bad was your problem prior to receiving physical therapy?
My knee had been – I had an abrasion where my knee had been split open and I had spacing. They had to put a drain in for three weeks. I had skin graffs on my hip because I had third degree burns from the middle of my thigh, all the way up to my shoulder from laying on the asphalt for twenty minutes.

What was your pain preventing you from doing?
When the accident first happened and my arms were affected, I couldn’t even brush my own hair.

What would you say to someone who was experiencing pain but skeptical about physical therapy?
If I was having trouble doing an exercise or I just couldn’t do it, they were okay with that. They would just adjust, instead of telling me, “No, just keep trying.” Whis is what I was expecting.

Out of all the things that you enjoyed about coming to Preferred Physical Therapy, what did you enjoy the most?
When I had to bring my niece with me almost every week, everybody was more excited to see her, I think, than anything, which made it easy.

What were you wanting to achieve and did we help you to achieve it?
I wanted to be able to get up and walk and drive myself. That’s all I wanted. But I can do stairs now. I can keep up with everybody. That was beyond what I was expecting. Within weeks, I was, like, “I don’t need my walker anymore, I don’t need my husband to help me in and out of the car, I can do it all myself.” I didn’t think I’d ever get any of that independence back.
