Dan’s Story
How long did you wait before deciding on physical therapy and what was the obstacle?
My wife had had vertigo before so we knew what it was and we knew it was positional and we knew that physical therapists could handle it and take care of it. I got online and found out who in the area was capable of treating [vertigo] and I found Preferred Physical Therapy. I called and talked to Nick. (He readily agreed to talk to me, rather than having someone else talk to me.) I told him what I was experiencing and he said, “I can help you.” He immediately got me in. He got me in within two hours of me calling. He knew that it was a big impact on your life.
What was and how bad was your problem prior to receiving physical therapy?
Well, it was a matter of waking up and the whole world was spinning.
What was your pain preventing you from doing?
It was every movement. If you bent down to pick something up, you couldn’t do that; You would totally become dizzy and lose your focus and orientation. Everything in life it affects. You can’t sit up. You can’t stand up. It is very, very disabling.
What would you say to someone who was experiencing pain but skeptical about physical therapy?
I came in and he did the exercises and he gave me a home program to show me how to help in between treatments. Because my wife had had it before and had it treated at another clinic but they didn’t give her a home program. The home program that Nick gave me, gave me exercises to do that helped me recover MUCH faster.
Out of all the things that you enjoyed about coming to Preferred Physical Therapy, what did you enjoy the most?
I knew once he started, it would get better; and if I did the home program and came back for some additional treatments, it would go away.
What were you wanting to achieve and did we help you to achieve it?
Once they start working on my positional vertigo, it was only two or three treatments and I was back!
What to Watch Out For:
- Rolling over to the left in bed or lying down in bed
- Lying down slowly and not rolling to the left
