Common Questions About Rehabilitation Therapy
We know rehab can feel overwhelming if you’re not sure what to expect. Below, we answer the most common questions from our patients—so you can make an informed decision and feel confident about your next step.
Still have questions? Give us a call and we’ll walk you through it.
Can rehabilitation therapy help with chronic pain or old injuries?
Yes. Rehabilitation therapy can help reduce chronic pain and improve movement, even if your injury happened years ago. We focus on restoring joint and muscle function, rebuilding strength, and improving the way your body moves, so you’re not stuck managing symptoms long-term.
What is the meaning of rehabilitation therapy?
Rehabilitation therapy is a structured process that helps people recover strength, mobility, and function after an injury, surgery, or long-term health issue. The goal is to help you move better, feel stronger, and get back to normal activities without relying on medication or repeated medical visits.
What are examples of rehabilitative treatment?
Rehabilitative treatment includes:
- Strength and mobility exercises
- Manual therapy (hands-on treatment)
- Balance and stability training
- Neuromuscular re-education
- Pain management techniques
- Functional movement retraining
Each plan is different. We use the methods that match your condition and goals.
What's the difference between physical therapy and rehabilitation?
Physical therapy is one type of rehabilitation. Rehabilitation therapy is a broader term that includes physical therapy, but also covers other services like balance training, injury prevention, and recovery after surgery or stroke. Physical therapy is usually the main part of rehab, but not the only one.
What are the four stages of rehabilitation?
The rehab process usually follows four key stages:
-
Relief and protection – Reduce pain, swelling, and strain
-
Restoration of movement – Improve flexibility, range of motion, and joint control
-
Strength and control – Rebuild muscle, improve balance, and restore coordination
-
Return to activity – Prepare your body to return to normal work, fitness, or sport
Every patient moves through these stages at their own pace, based on their progress.
