Common Physical Rehabilitation Therapy Questions Answered
We know starting rehab therapy can come with questions. To help you feel more confident about your care, we’ve answered the most common things patients ask us before they start.
Not seeing your question here? Contact us anytime. We’re happy to walk you through what to expect.
Can rehabilitation therapy help with chronic pain or old injuries?
Absolutely. Many of our patients come in with pain they’ve been living with for years—sometimes after an old injury, surgery, or just wear and tear. Our rehab therapy focuses on restoring function and retraining the way your body moves, so you’re not just managing pain but actually improving how you feel and move each day.
What is the meaning of rehabilitation therapy?
Rehabilitation therapy means helping your body heal and function better after an injury, surgery, or long-standing condition. At our clinic, it’s about more than just exercise. It’s a step-by-step plan built around you, so you can regain strength, move more easily, and get back to doing the things you enjoy, without relying on constant medications or doctor visits.
What are examples of rehabilitative treatment?
We use different types of treatments depending on your condition and goals. Some common ones include:
- Strength training and mobility work
- Hands-on manual therapy
- Balance and coordination training
- Muscle and nerve retraining
- Pain relief techniques
- Movement practice for daily tasks
It’s never one-size-fits-all. We build your plan around what works best for you.
What’s the difference between physical therapy and rehabilitation?
Physical therapy is a big part of rehab, but it’s not the whole picture. Rehabilitation includes physical therapy but can also involve things like recovery after surgery, balance training, and re-learning everyday movements. If you need help getting back to full strength and function, rehab gives you a more complete recovery plan.
What are the four stages of rehabilitation?
Every recovery goes through four main stages, though the timing is different for everyone:
-
Relief and protection – Help you feel better and prevent further strain
-
Movement restoration – Improve flexibility, range of motion, and mobility
-
Strength building – Focus on balance, control, and rebuilding muscles
-
Return to activity – Safely ease back into daily tasks, work, or sport
We guide you through each stage at your own pace and adjust your plan as you improve.
