Returned to training after torn labrum

Luke’s Story

Think back to before you came to see us. How long did you wait before making that decision? What was the obstacle in seeing a physical therapist?
I waited about two days. At the time I was in the police academy so it was just finding the right time to come here on days off.

About your particular problem, what was it and how bad was it before coming in?
It was pretty bad. I’m not sure how big it was, but I had a torn labrum in my left shoulder. I had torn it during training and could barely move my arm. I had limited mobility so I really needed to get some help for it.

Did your shoulder injury prevent you from doing anything during the day?
It prevented me from doing any physical training.

Did you try anything that didn’t work, prior to physical therapy?
I tried Ibuprofen and some icy hot before I actually knew what the issue was.

Now that you have experienced physical therapy with us, if a friend or family member was experiencing shoulder pain but hesitant on getting physical therapy, what would you say to them?
They should definitely give it a shot. It helped me get better and this place has a lot of great people. It’s better than having to get surgery.

Out of all of the things that you enjoyed about coming to see us, what was the thing that you enjoyed the most?
I really enjoyed the cupping therapy. That treatment helped out a lot.

What was the number one thing that you were wanting to achieve by coming here, and did we help you to achieve it?
The number one thing was just to get better. I found out that my injury isn’t treatable unless surgery is done but I wanted to get on the right path to get it better without surgery and making surgery the last effort to fix it. I have definitely achieved that here.
