Charles’s Story

How long did you wait before coming in for physical therapy? What was the obstacle?
It was a few months before I got to my doctor and he recommended physical therapy once I got there. I thought it would just go away eventually or that it would heal on its own. Just being a guy I suppose.

What was and how bad was your foot problem prior to coming to Preferred PT?
The bones in my foot were weak and they needed to be strengthened. It got to the point where I couldn’t put weight on my foot.

What was your foot pain causing you to miss out on?
I volunteer a lot, especially with the Glendale Fire Department, so I couldn’t work a lot of my shifts because we stand around on our feet up to eight hours a day. It put a damper on my volunteering.

What would you say to someone who was experiencing foot pain but hesitant on seeing a physical therapist?
I actually have a coworker right now who’s having the same foot problems. She’s currently going to physical therapy but she’s hesitant about continuing to go because she doesn’t see immediate results. I essentially told her my story about my physical therapy experience and how it takes time. She just needs to continue with the exercises she’s given and over time she’ll see the difference. She just has to have patience. It’s not going to heal over night, you know, that’s a miracle.

Out of all the things you enjoyed about coming to Preferred PT, what did you enjoy the most?
The atmosphere was fun, friendly and inviting. It wasn’t all clinical, you know, we had fun and joked around. It eased the anxiety of coming to a more or less doctor/ medical setting. That was the best part.

What were you wanting to achieve, and did our team help you to achieve it?
The number one thing was to not be in as much pain as I was when I started my physical therapy journey, and I have achieved that. The exercises I’m walking away with I can use at home at any point in time to ease that pain if need be.

What to Watch Out For:

Pain scale: 7/10
Pain description: Sharp pain within the foot that radiates towards the heel
Worse with:
  • Walking
  • As the day progresses
Better with:
  • Sitting for extended periods of time
Number of visits: 12
